Before the Romans, the area was occupied by an ancient population called Agon Gauls, Vogogna derives from Vallis Agonum (”village of the Agons”).
You can start your visit from the Oratory of S. Pietro, located just outside the old centre and which preserves some precious 15th century frescoes. From here you can continue along the main street that leads to the historical center and pass through the district of S. Carlo, with its 18th century buildings and arrive to the ancient De Regibus street, with a church destroyed (with its bell tower) due to a collapse in 1975. Only its Renascence portal survived, now housed in the new bell tower. A small bridge will take you to the heart of the village. On the left you can admire the tower of the castle. In Via Roma there is a line of buildings embellished with 17th century balconies. Pretorio is a small Gothic palace, built in 1348, it was the headquarter of local government until 1819. Around Pretorio there are very beautiful houses, Villa Biraghi Lossetti (1650) is located near the small church of Saint Martha. In piazza Camillo you can admire Casa Marchesa, the oldest noble house of the borgo (1350).
Cheese and salami are the local products. The local dish is called Gnocchi all’Ossolana: potato dumplings with pumpkin, chestnut, butter and cheese.
