In the name there is the essence of this borgo: from the Latin asylum<\/em> (\u201crefuge\u201d), \u00a0it is the place chosen by those who want to escape from the stress of the city and enjoy an atmosphere of peace and serenity.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Do not miss” tab_id=”1480496820077-2b27c1ff-e93b”][vc_column_text]You may start you visit from the central square, today named Piazza Garibaldi<\/strong>, with its old fountain<\/strong> and the lion of St. Mark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Cathedral<\/strong> was rebuilt in 1747, but its fa\u00e7ade retains its original Romanesque structure. Inside there are important artworks, such as the Assumption, a masterpiece by Lorenzo Lotto (1506). The Loggia della Ragione<\/strong> was the hub of the administrative life; in the Sala della Ragione there are the coats of arms of the Asolo lords. The fa\u00e7ade facing the square has a fresco by Contarini.<\/p>\n

Taking via Browning, you will come to Palazzo Polo<\/strong> with its elegant three-mullioned windows, the Tabacchi house<\/strong> (where Browning wrote the ”Asolando” verses), the Zen fountain<\/strong> (1571) and Villa Freya<\/strong>, the residence of the Stark family. Passing Porta Loreggia you\u2019ll reach the Malipiero house,<\/strong> where the Venetian musician lived, and the Church of San Gottardo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Via Bembo you can walk alongside the fortified walls that lead to the Fortress<\/strong> and back to the square.<\/p>\n

In via Regina Cornaro there are 15th century palaces<\/strong> with porticoes and decorated with frescoes. The Castello della Regina<\/strong>, or Queen\u2019s Castle, today Teatro Duse<\/strong>, with the Civic tower and the smaller Reata tower, is on the left.<\/p>\n

In Via Sottocastello you can find the ancient door<\/strong> with the same name, and Palazzo Beltramini<\/strong>, now the town hall.<\/p>\n

In Via Belvedere, the Jewish community lived until 1547. In Via Canova there is the Duse house<\/strong> and, below Porta Santa Caterina<\/strong>, the De Maria house<\/strong> and the small, pretty Church of Santa Caterina<\/strong>, with frescoes from the 14th century. On the left there is Palazzo Pasquali<\/strong>, with a commemorative plaque remembering Napoleon\u2019s stay (1797) .<\/p>\n

On the hill called \u201cdegli Armeni\u201d there is Villa Contarini<\/strong> with a fresco. In Via Sant\u2019Anna there is the church of the same name.<\/p>\n

In Via Dante you will find the elegant Villa Scotti<\/strong>\u00a0and the former Benedictine monastery of San Pietro.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally, passing through Porta Colmarion, is possible, with 276 steps, reach the Rocca, a medieval fortress (13th century), at the top of Monte Ricco.<\/p>\n
