Gromo means \u201clump of rock\u201d, a protuberance emerging in the landscape, but its name could also derive from a Celtic tribe called ”Grumi”.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Do not miss” tab_id=”1480496820077-2b27c1ff-e93b”][vc_column_text]Gromo is a perfetc combination of elements (water, wood and clean air), safeguarding a rich artistic anc cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

You may start your visit from the theatrical\u00a0Piazza Dante,<\/strong>\u00a0where you can admire the\u00a0Ginami castle<\/strong> (13th century), Palazzo Milesi<\/strong> (1443), now the City Hall, and the Church of San Gregorio<\/strong> with its 17th<\/sup> century altar, which represent the borgo as it was.<\/p>\n

Along via Milesi you can see some beautiful private dwellings, with their portals made with the local stone. Strolling around the narrow streets in the highest part of the old town centre, you\u2019ll admire\u00a0the central fountain<\/strong> and many others small fountains scattered around, the secular windows of the historical residential fa\u00e7ades, the Liberty villas<\/strong> built in the early 20th century, when Gromo became a fashionable resort.<\/p>\n

The church of San Giacomo<\/strong> (the most important of the borgo) stands outside the old town while in other villages of the same period, the church stands in front of the Town Hall in order to oppose the spiritual and the temporal powers. It has a very austere exterior appearance, with a portico made of local stone and side entrances. The main entrance is on the southern fa\u00e7ade, it is decorated with a white marble portal in classical style. The interior of the church is very different from the outside: there are frescoes, paintings, wooden objects and marble statues. The baptismal font dates back to 1511 and the beautiful high altar is decorated with gold elements.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Local products and dishes” tab_id=”1480496816178-4ed93fff-7757″][vc_column_text]Formaggella<\/em> and Stracchino<\/em> are two excellent local cheese.<\/p>\n
