Frosolone a village in the province of Isernia. The origin of the name is linked to the “frisone”, a bird depicted on the town’s coat of arms. The village’s architecture reflects its long history, with a historic center characterized by stone alleys, arches, fountains and noble residences. The tradition of blade-making in Frosolone has ancient roots, dating back tot the 4th century during the Longobard Kingdom in Italy. Frosolone craftsmen perfected various types of knives, including the renowned “zuava”, characterized by a sturdy blade and snap closure, highly valued by shepherds and travelers. In Frosolone, the ancient art of transhumance is not just a memory of the past, but a living tradition. This deep connection with pastoral life is also reflected in Frosolone’s celebrated cheese-making tradition.
