A Medieval Borgo Between Valleys, Porticoes and the Ancient Salt Route
If there is a place where history, architecture and rural culture meet in perfect harmony, it is Pieve di Teco. Nestled in the Arroscia Valley, this medieval borgo developed along the ancient Salt Route connecting the Ligurian coast with Piedmont and France. Its identity is deeply shaped by its arcaded streets, stone buildings and the slow rhythm of a town that has preserved its authentic soul over centuries. Walking through the historic centre means entering a living medieval setting where trade, craftsmanship and community life have always coexisted.
The borgo’s identity is strongly linked to its remarkable porticoes, among the most distinctive architectural features of inland Liguria. The Collegiate Church of San Giovanni Battista, dating back to medieval origins and enriched over time, stands as the main religious and artistic landmark. The Tommaso Salvini Theatre, one of the smallest historic theatres in Italy still active today, reflects the cultural vitality of the community. The Clock Tower and noble palaces such as Palazzo Manfredi complete a rich historical landscape.
