Perinaldo rises on a beautiful mountain ridge with a view that stretches from the Ligurian Alps to the sea. This charming borgo is nestled between the vineyards and olive groves, its enchanting historic centre still has medieval squares and carrugi, the typical streets in Liguria. This is also the territory of artichokes and of the Taggiasca olive, introduced in 1640 by the Franciscans. Taggiasca Extra Virgin Olive Oil is characterized by lightness, low acidity, and fruity flavour. Perinaldo’s most illustrious son is the late 17th-century astronomer and scientist Giovanni Domenico Cassini, appointed by the Sun King, Louis XIV to his court to direct the Paris Observatory. The Municipal Astronomical Observatory and a museum with a permanent exhibition of his personal and professional items are dedicated to Cassini’s astronomical discoveries. Along the street, via Cassini is a path with plaques representing the solar system in scale 1:10,000 billion. Don’t miss the canvas of Our Lady Intercedes for the Souls of Purgatory attributed to the school of Guercino in the Parish Church of San Nicola di Bari (11th century). The Meridian in the Sanctuary of the Visitation, a camera obscura sundial is the first of these proportions to be built since the end of the 19th century.

Perinaldo’s typical product is the artichoke, a Slow Food Presidium. The Perinaldo artichoke is tender and has no prickles or chokes. Tolerant of cold temperatures and drought, they need no chemical treatments, Taggiasca olives and extra virgin olive oil.
